Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 tbsp (15g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2g cooking spray (avocado or coconut oil)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and salt. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- Once the butter is fully melted, add the sifted flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a dough ball forms and a thin film develops on the bottom of the pan, approximately 2 minutes.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes to ensure the egg does not scramble upon contact.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the cooled dough. Beat vigorously until the mixture transforms from separated pieces into a smooth, glossy, and thick paste.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Pipe 3 to 4-inch strips directly into the basket, using kitchen shears to snip the dough at the end of each strip. Space them 1 inch apart to allow for airflow.
- Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes or until the exterior is mahogany-colored and crisp. Immediately toss in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while warm.
