Ingredients:
- 3 lbs 85/15 ground beef
- 3 tbsp chili powder
- 1.5 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 cup chunky salsa
- 0.25 cup beef bone broth
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp lime juice
Instructions:
- Place the raw ground beef directly into the base of a 4-quart to 6-quart slow cooker. Do not pre-brown the meat.
- Add the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands or a stiff wooden spoon to massage the spices into the cold meat until evenly distributed.
- Pour the chunky salsa, beef bone broth, and tomato paste over the seasoned meat. Do not stir completely; allow it to layer.
- Cover and cook on Low for 6 hours until the meat is fully browned and the aroma fills the kitchen.
- Once cooked, use a meat masher to break the beef into fine crumbles. Stir in the lime juice to brighten the flavors until the sauce looks glossy and integrated.
- Rest the meat on the Warm setting for 10 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
