Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Jimmy Dean Premium Pork Sausage
  • 6 cups white bread cubes, stale
  • 2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp cracked black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. A lower temp ensures the eggs cook through without becoming tough.
  2. Brown 1 lb Jimmy Dean Premium Pork Sausage in a skillet until no pink remains and edges are crisp.
  3. Drain the excess fat, but leave a thin coating on the meat for flavor.
  4. Layer 6 cups stale white bread cubes in a greased 9x13 dish.
  5. Sprinkle the browned sausage and 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar over the bread.
  6. Whisk 8 large eggs, 2 cups whole milk, 1 tsp dry mustard, 0.5 tsp salt, and 0.25 tsp pepper until completely blended.
  7. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage layers.
  8. Press down lightly with a spoon so every bread cube is submerged.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes until the center is set and top is golden brown.
  10. Rest the casserole for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Note: This allows the custard to firm up so it doesn't fall apart.
