Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp (10g) baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) kosher salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) melted unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp (30g) melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp (8g) ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan thoroughly with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the room-temperature milk, melted butter, egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Whisk gently until just combined, stopping as soon as flour streaks disappear.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  5. In a small ramekin, mix the remaining melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon into a paste. Spread the paste evenly over the raw batter.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is mahogany-brown. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
