Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 cups shredded red cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 medium avocado, diced
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 whole grain buns
- 4 slices red onion, thinly sliced
- 4 leaves butter lettuce
Instructions:
- Combine the ground turkey, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined to prevent a rubbery texture.
- Shape the mixture into 4 patties, pressing a small indentation into the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Sear patties for 5-6 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- While the burgers rest for 3 minutes, whisk lime juice and olive oil in a bowl. Fold in shredded cabbage, carrots, and cilantro.
- Gently fold in the diced avocado to the slaw to ensure chunks remain intact.
- Assemble by placing the turkey patty on a toasted whole grain bun with butter lettuce, red onion slices, and a generous portion of avocado-lime slaw.
