Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 medium avocado, diced
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 whole grain buns
  • 4 slices red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 leaves butter lettuce

Instructions:

  1. Combine the ground turkey, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined to prevent a rubbery texture.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 patties, pressing a small indentation into the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Sear patties for 5-6 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  4. While the burgers rest for 3 minutes, whisk lime juice and olive oil in a bowl. Fold in shredded cabbage, carrots, and cilantro.
  5. Gently fold in the diced avocado to the slaw to ensure chunks remain intact.
  6. Assemble by placing the turkey patty on a toasted whole grain bun with butter lettuce, red onion slices, and a generous portion of avocado-lime slaw.
